Friendship Meals

'Janet' and 'Jay' have been coming to our Thursday dinners for over a year.  Due to the economy, Jay lost his job and has not found steady work.  The lost their home and had to move into a very small apartment.  They are very grateful for the meal served on Thursday and the opportunity to receive products donated by Buehler's.  Janet and Jay often express their thanks for their dinner.  However, the don't just think of themselves, but neighbors and friends in need who can enjoy a free meal and donations of food.  Frequently, they will invite others, or ask for take-home meals for friends with special needs.

Because of the economy, we have seen an increase in persons attending Friendship Meals.  People who may have never needed assistance in the past have found Friendship Meals to be a benefit to them.

Friendship Meals is a non-church affiliated program that provides a social gathering place for people to come once a week and share a nutritionally balanced hot meal.  Also, we provide a places for adults and young people to come and enjoy the benefits of volunteering and being giving members of society.  We see people from all over Wayne County, but mostly from Orrville and the surrounding area.  Most are unemployed, retired, or children.

We also promote interaction between our dinner guests and volunteers, to promote self-worth, understanding, and compassion.
