Orrville Middle School's Success School students need more mentors for the 2011-12 school year. Stepping Stones mentors work with students, their 'mentees', to provide additional support toward personal and academic success. A mentor focuses on developing a friendship with the student and encourages setting and achieving goals, making good choices and learning to safely express emotions and feelings.
Comments from mentors:
- It is a rewarding experience to know you are making a difference.
- I am so happy I decided to volunteer for this program!
- I feel I have learned more from my mentee than she has from me.
- My mentee reminds me to have fund and laugh, and I remind him to stay organized in school.
- Through mentoring, I have seen the challenges that kids face today and how important it is to just be there to listen.
Comments from mentees:
- I learned that I can do better if I try.
- I enjoy being with my mentor. I can tell her anything.
- My mentor is great!
- The best thing about having a mentor is that you have someone to talk to.
- I have gained a new friend and someone to talk to.
- I like having a mentor because you get help on stuff and it's fun!
