Every Woman's House is a shelter for the victims of domestic violence.  They typically serve women who escape with their children from abusive situations.

Gina Patterson sent this story about a mother and her son:

Lucy (not her real name) and her son Chuck (not his real name) entered the shelter in January.  Chuck is 10, and has autism.  Chuck attended school daily in a special needs program.
Lucy sought shelter after incidents of violence against her and her son by her boyfriend.  Lucy was receiving benefits from the Department of Job and Family Services and was planning to take the State Tested Nurse's Aid (STNA) training to provide additional income for her family.
While at the shelter, she completed a housing assessment and qualified for long term assistance from a housing program.
Working closely with her case manager, Lucy was able to find an apartment within the financial requirements of the program.  She moved from the shelter in March into her own apartment.
Lucy continues to meet weekly with her case manager and reports that things are going well.  She continues to investigate the STNA courses and discusses options with her case manager.
