People to People Ministries

Carol is a single mom with one child.  She works hard as a healthcare worker at one of the local nursing homes.  The home that she and her son currently rent is heated by propane heat.  She was able to use Community Action Wayne Medina winter heating program (HEAP) this winter for one fill of propane and she was able to use Orrville Salvation Army for her Orrville Municipal Utility one time.  As we all know it has been another bitter cold winter in Ohio and her rental property is not as heat efficient as it could be.  She came to our office in need of more propane.  The propane company said that a minimum fill would be 150 gallons and the price per gallon varies from day to day.  On the day I called it was $2.399 per gallon.  The total came to $359.85.  We were able to help her with this emergency.  Once she had the propane, the stress of wondering how she would heat her home for her family lessened and she knew she could keep up with her monthly expenses.  It is very hard for families to prepare for winter heating bills when they don’t have a full time job; living from paycheck to paycheck.  Carol is like many of the families we see each and every day we are open.  We help families needing the immediate help as we work with the other agencies and programs to see that families can stay in their homes.

The purpose of People To People Ministries is to provide an immediate, realistic, and compassionate response to people with basic needs when these needs are not being met through any other programs.  This program is a non-profit supported through donations from churches, civic organizations, private individuals, and United Way.  As we continue in our efforts, we believe that in some small way we will continue to improve the quality of life to those in need.
