The Dolly Parton Imagination Library Is Here!

Increasing children’s language and early literacy skills is essential to achieving our national goals related to school readiness, fourth grade reading, and high school graduation.

How does this program work?

The Dollywood Foundation provides and mails a free, age-appropriate hardcover book each month to any registered child from birth to age 5 who lives in our service area. Our United Way registers participants, maintains the database, and pays the postage, about $30 per year per child.

How can I help?

Grants from United Way and the Orrville Rotary Club are helping provide the Imagination Library program for our first year, but anyone can help. Just $30 sponsors a child for a whole year. Mail checks to Orrville Area United Way, P.O. Box 214, Orrville OH 44667, and write 'DPIL' on the memo line.

How do I register my child?

Fill out a registration form (available at our United Way and other locations around town) or register children online: www.imaginationlibrary.com. Click 'first time visitors', then the choice 'I would like to enroll my child.' The child must live in one of our United Way's three zip codes: 44667, 44618 or 44645.  

 
Bridges of Hope

One of our newest community initiatives, the Bridges of Hope program assists families who have set a goal to move out of poverty. It is based on the Circles Project, a national program with a proven record of success in other communities.

How does the program work?

Circles of Allies are formed from community volunteers who surround a participating family, providing friendship and emotional support. The family itself serves as the Circle Leader, setting goals and problem-solving to improve their own lives as well as have a positive impact in their community. In Wayne County, the program is being funded by the Department of Jobs and Family Services with help from local United Ways, faith communities, and individuals. Goodwill Industries serves as the sponsor and fiscal agent.

Wayne County Rx Network

There is help for residents whose income is at or below 200% of poverty level and have no insurance coverage for prescriptions. The Rx Network is supported by local United Ways as well as by grants from the Health Foundation of Greater Massillon and the Austin Bailey Health & Wellness Foundation. In the past year the program has shown an average savings of well over 90% of the cost of medications for its clients!

How does the program work?

The Rx Network accesses pharmaceutical assistance programs for clients in order to get the medications they need for free or at greatly reduced cost. A coordinator meets with the client and puts all necessary information into a web-based program, which streamlines the application process.

Call for an appointment at the Wooster location inside United Way at 330-263-6363, or at the Orrville location inside Dunlap Hospital at 330-684-4737.
 

 
VITA Sites (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance)

Residents who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (see guidelines below) can have their tax return completed for FREE by an IRS-certified volunteer. Last year our Orrville site helped 61 clients claim a total of $67,453 in Federal refunds including $26,841 in Earned Income Tax Credit!

For tax year 2009:
If you worked in 2009 and earned less than:

• $13,440 (no children)
• $35,463 (1 child)
• $40,295 (2 children)
• $43,279 (3 or more children)

(Increase these amounts by $5,000 if married, filing jointly.) You may qualify for Earned Income Tax Credit and free tax preparation services.
