The mission of Viola Startzman Clinic is to “provide healthcare and hope to residents of Wayne & Holmes Counties and surrounding communities, in an atmosphere of dignity and respect.”. Viola Startzman’s programming contributes to OAUW’s impact area of Promoting Health & Wellness.
Viola Startzman Clinic is the only organization in Wayne County offering free/discounted comprehensive primary care and dental care services to the uninsured and underinsured. They accept insurance plans that are difficult to work with or that pay providers less than the cost of providing the service. Viola Startzman is committed to comprehensive care, which often means a patient sees a medical provider, a dentist, a counselor and a case manager in the same visit. Viola Startzman Clinic is a 19-member licensed clinical and support staff team along with a 400+ member volunteer team. Services include medical services for preventative, acute and chronic conditions, on-site specialty clinics including physical therapy, occupational therapy, women's health, endocrinology, dermatology, infectious disease, family planning, and STD clinics, and dental services including cleanings, fillings, root canals, extractions, fluoride treatments and sealants, plus more.
In 2021, Viola Startzman served 1,805 clients in the Orrville, Dalton and Marshallville area and 7,800 clients in all of Wayne County. By July of 2022, Viola Startzman had served 478 patients for direct medical or dental care in the OAUW reach, plus 185 children for oral hygiene education and screening services. The number of children seen in Viola Startzman’s oral health outreach program has been higher than anticipated as they have been able to access many more preschools, churches and other programs through increased mobile services.
Viola Startzman collaborates with hundreds of organizations and agencies and recruits qualified volunteers to provide many of their services.
